Route: The French are coming!
Route showing sites in Vilanova i la Geltrú which were involved in the Peninsular War and visit to the Can Papiol Romantic Museum.
A walk through the streets of Vilanova i la Geltrú, which witnessed the Napoleonic invasion during the Peninsular War (1808-1814). When French troops entered Spain, Catalonia was the first and last area occupied. Vilanova i la Geltrú did not escape the conflict and neither did the building now housing the Romantic Museum, formerly the home of Francesc de Papiol, who suffered the consequences of the war as one of the town’s leading figures and an active politician.
